Align Family Health & Wellness Center
Align Family Health & Wellness Center, we rely on powerfully insightful data to ensure the delivery of our excellent healthcare services. We’re seeking an experienced medical coding professional to deliver that insight to us daily. The Coder position is responsible for assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes to inpatient and outpatient hospital services, along with services rendered in skilled nursing facilities, free-standing clinics and other places of service by wound care providers. The ideal candidate possesses excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with providers and other staff members regarding coding requirements. This is an on-site position at our office in Kansas and Missouri. Paid working at home may be considered.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assign appropriate ICD10/CPT codes to patient visits based on the legal medical record
- Translate healthcare providers’ diagnostic and procedural phrases into a coded form
- Obtain necessary clarification of information on the notes and charts from the provider
- Identify missing or incomplete medical records
- Review claim edits/errors within the billing system to ensure accuracy of coding and billing requirements
- Collaborate with the manager in the development and improvement of workflow processes, for optimum output/efficiency
- Review, research and respond to provider and operating management inquiries about the coding of visits
- Promote an atmosphere of open communication, teamwork and staff input in the decision-making process
- Participate in the completion of special projects as assigned by management
- Generate Excel spreadsheets for special projects as assigned
- Perform other duties as required
Required Education, Experience and Credentials:
- High school graduate or equivalent, required
- Associate degree through an accredited college, preferred; or
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- One to three years of coding experience required
- Completion of American Health Information Management (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) accredited coding training program
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC, preferred
- Proficient in data entry/10 key, proficient with practice management software
